Siding replacement in Seattle and Snohomish County
Siding protects your home from Pacific Northwest rain and wind and shapes how it looks from the street. A siding project can replace worn or damaged sections, re-side one elevation, or update the whole exterior with new material, trim and color.
Many homes in our service area have original wood siding, older panel siding, or materials that have weathered after decades of wet winters. Signs worth a closer look include soft or cracked boards, peeling paint that returns quickly, gaps at trim and windows, and staining below windows or at the base of walls.
Siding materials and styles
Common options include fiber cement, engineered wood, natural wood and vinyl, in lap, shingle, board-and-batten and panel profiles. Each has different appearance, maintenance and installation details. The right choice depends on the style of the house, your maintenance preferences and your budget range.
Color and trim make a big difference. Window and door surrounds, corner boards and fascia can be updated with the siding. You can compare exterior tones in our material studio.
Trim, windows and weather details
Much of how siding performs depends on what you do not see: the water-resistive barrier behind it, flashing at windows and doors, and how the bottom edge and roof lines are detailed. When old siding comes off, the condition of the sheathing underneath becomes visible, and any damage found is discussed before it is addressed.
Siding work is weather-dependent in the Northwest, so scheduling and protection of exposed areas are part of planning.

Timelines depend on the size of the house, the material, lead times, weather and what is found under the existing siding. The expected schedule is discussed in your proposal.
Siding permits and older homes
Some siding work may require a permit, particularly when sheathing, structure, windows or doors are changed, and requirements vary by jurisdiction. Homes built before 1978 may have lead-based paint on siding and trim, and some older siding products may contain asbestos; federal and regional rules can apply when those materials are disturbed, so testing may be part of planning.
Permit requirements depend on the scope of work and on who has jurisdiction over your address. In Seattle, building permits are handled by the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI). Cities such as Everett, Lynnwood, Edmonds, Mill Creek, Shoreline and Renton run their own permit offices, and unincorporated Snohomish County is handled by Snohomish County Planning and Development Services (PDS). Electrical permits in Washington may be issued by the city or by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), depending on location. Rules change, so the current requirements should always be confirmed with the jurisdiction before work begins.
